2020 Year of the Metal Rat Forecast

Standard

The year of 2019, the year of the Earth Pig, was a difficult one for many. It was a year of inner work and reflection and also a pulling together of things, which for many was  preceded by a falling apart of things.

This new year of 2020 not only boasts a new decade, but it’s also fresh positive energy from the Chinese zodiac perspective. Opportunities abound this year and it will be a great year for businesses and promoting yourself! It’s time to reap the benefits of the work you have done over the past several years and also to plant new seeds for the next decade and new 12 year cycle. It’s a year for planning and for taking action on those plans. The possibility of experiencing abundance is available to everyone this year!

The 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac cycle through each of the 5 elements so there is a 60 year full cycle.  With the year of the RAT in 2020 we begin a brand new sign cycle. This is an opportunity for a fresh start. The actions and decisions you make this year set the tone for the next 12 years! From the Chinese zodiac perspective the 2020 “vision” year fits in perfectly with the fresh energy of the Metal Rat (metal being about focus and clarity and the rat bringing a fresh beginning.)

Each animal is naturally connected to an element and the RAT’s element is Water. This particular year we have a METAL RAT. Since metal produces water (think of the condensation on a metal water bottle that is not insulated), we have the metal energy feeding the rat’s natural element, which could mean a more peaceful year. However, 2020 is not a year to be lazy energy since the element of metal is about focus, discipline, refinement, structure, logic and honesty.

Looking at the personality of the Rat helps give us a glimpse of what’s in store for the coming year. Rats have a split personality. They are both Yin and Yang, having front paws with four fingers (yin) and back paws with five toes (yang). Further, each Chinese animal is associated with two hours of the day and the Rat’s energy is split since their hours span two days, going from 11pm – 1am.

Rats are introverts but also need to be around people. They can be bossy (they are the #1 animal in the Chinese zodiac after all…like Aries in the traditional zodiac). Rats aren’t given handouts – they have to scrounge for their food, which means you will need to put yourself out there and go after what you want this year. Rats tend to live in the moment and are devoted to their family. They are very detail-oriented, but they don’t like to work too hard so their success results from using their minds. They are quite adaptable and their best friend is the Ox with other friends being Dragons and Monkeys (this gives you a hint about who has a good year in store!)

Numerology Connects with Metal Rat Year Energy

It’s interesting, though not all that surprising that the numerology for 2020 echoes the energy of the Chinese zodiac year of the Metal Rat. This year is a 22/4 year which is quite powerful.  According to Louise Hay’s book, Colors and Numbers, 22/4 relates to greatness and the 4 by itself is about being practical, which connects very strongly with the energy of metal.  We haven’t had this powerful double energy in a year since 1919.

Things to do this year:

  • Work with others, in your community and focus on projects that benefit many
  • Build something, especially foundations
  • Be constructive (also means being positive and happy as you do your work)
  • Be productive and organized
  • Focus and pay attention to details
  • Work on big projects and follow a schedule for completion
  • Focus on self-discipline and using your mind
  • “Weed” and declutter your space, your mind, your life
  • Organize and care for your things: home, clothes, finances, etc.
  • Wear white, gold and metallics to tap into the energy of Metal
  • Be in harmony with the earth (spending more time outside, using eco-friendly products, giving back by cleaning up the planet)

Industries that will perform well in 2020 include:

Computers              Banking/Financial    Power Generation
Restaurants            Entertainment         Real Estate             Construction
Mining                    Insurance               Technology             Machinery

Challenged Industries in 2020 include:

Fashion                  Media                     Communication       Books
Shipping                Transport               Environment

Sign Guiding Me To Maui

Standard

I knew that I was meant to move from Minnesota.

I had felt that for several years before the actual move. I originally thought I might move to California because I enjoyed the time I spent there during my GoldSwap business days in Sacramento and visiting family in the Los Angeles area. Seattle had also come up as a positive place for me in my Astrocartography. Yet my soul longed for a tropical locale…a place where palm trees swayed in ocean breezes and sunshine was abundant.

I had felt a strong connection with the Hawaiian Islands since the early 2000s when I first visited with my husband at the time. We purchased a timeshare on Kauai and visited Hawaii several times over the years both alone and with our young boys. We spent the majority of our time on Kauai but also visited Oahu and the Big Island. I was never able to arrange a timeshare exchange on Maui, which now looking back seems serendipitous.

I had been receiving nudge after nudge (little signs if you will) about moving to Maui, despite never having visited the island before. This was a huge step, a big leap of faith and I felt I the need for more reassurance from my Spiritual Team that this was my path.

I needed a sign.

I told my Team that if I was truly meant to move to Maui that they needed to give me a clear sign, something that would be ridiculously obvious to me and would confirm that it was part of my Divinely Aligned Path to move to Maui. I asked that this sign be something that I could not ignore.

And send a sign they did!

The very next day as I drove into my driveway after running some errands, I noticed a package sitting by my front door. It was December 8th and I had been receiving a lot of gifts in the mail as I was participating in a Secret Santa Sister gift exchange. The gifts were coming to me from friends of friends, many of whom lived out of state and none were people that I personally knew. Sometimes the Secret Santa sender would put a little note in the package, but more often the gift would arrive anonymously. Such was the case with the package I received that day.

The package was a typical brown shipping box and it felt light as I brought it into the house, excited to see what was in it. I set the box on my kitchen counter and used a knife to slice through the tape that secured the box shut. I pulled up the flaps of the box up. The sender had wrapped the gifts and placed them in the bottom of the box and then used a couple small handled shopping bags to act as a cushion for the gifts.

I pulled the first of the shopping bags out and set it on the counter next to the box. I was drawn to the color of it as it was a beautiful aqua blue, the color of the ocean and one of my favorite colors. As I took another look at the bag and read the store inscription on it, a big grin spread across my face and I thanked my guides.

They had sent me a sign that was so crystal clear I couldn’t ignore it. The inscription on the bag was Maui Divers Jewelry!! Having received this magnificent sign, I now felt confident that I was, in fact, following my Divinely Aligned Path in moving to Maui!

Selling Your Home with Feng Shui

Standard

There are many factors that affect the speed with which your home sells. As I write this blog, it is very much a “Seller’s Market” and realtors say there is not enough inventory of homes to meet the needs of all the buyers. And yet, some homes take longer to sell than others. Why is that?

Homes have an energy to them, just like people and objects do. Prospective buyers can feel the energy of your home. Take my house, for instance. It has great energy. People love to hang out there. I enjoy hanging out there myself! But, as many of you know, I am moving to Maui. So my house needs to be sold.

As I prepared my house for the market, there was much to do. Doing this “work” requires that you look at the space that has been your home in a whole new light. My realtor and home stager helped me see my house and the things in it from the buyer’s perspective. I also prepared my home energetically using Feng Shui and other helpful practices.

If you’re preparing to sell your home, start with:

  1. Clearing Clutter
Anything you are not using should be removed. I found sorting items into categories such as Sell, Give Away, Keep and Store was helpful. If you’re planning on having a garage sale, pricing items and boxing them in categories will make sale set up easier.
  2.  Remove Personal Items
The big high school graduation pictures of  my boys and all my family photos had to go. For me, this also meant removing the majority of my Feng Shui cure items and many rocks and crystals. You want prospective buyers to be able to visualize themselves and their things in your house. They can’t do that if you have a lot of clutter or personal belongings in the space.

Selling your home involves more than making physical changes to the space. It is an emotional job as well. I felt sadness removing the Feng Shui adjustments I had placed with intention and love. I took time to process and FEEL these emotions. To help you do this emotional work, next…

  3. Write a Letter to Your Home
Let your house know what’s going on, why you’re moving and where you’re going. Homes have names and personalities. Uncover yours through meditation (or Schedule a House Whispering session with me!)  Thank your home for all the beautiful memories and for how it has supported you, kept you safe, warm, dry and comfortable during the time you have lived there. Encourage your home to help you. Ask what needs to be done to attract the new owners.
  4. Journal About Your Feelings
Emotions will come up for you as you clear the clutter, remove your personal belongings and otherwise prepare to sell your house. Journaling helps you process your emotions and energetically let go.Lastly, there are several “Feng Shui” adjustments  that can help speed up the sale of your home. These are a few of my favorites…
  5. Oil  Squeaky Doors
Doors represent the voice of adults and squeaky ones can lead to complaining. Read more about doors.
  6. Paint Your Front Door
Red is a lucky color, if you like that, and if it is different than the rest of your house. Or, if you can’t or don’t want to paint the door, hang a beautiful wreath on the door.
  7. Add Something With Movement
To attract energy (and buyers) to your home, add a flag or a whirly gig near the front door. Another great option, that I used, was a wind chime. The movement of these things (please only use one!) attracts the attention of prospective buyers.
  8. Boost the Helpful People
Place the names of your realtor, home stager, anyone that’s helping you pack or move and “the perfect new home owner” on pieces of paper inside a gray box or envelope in the Helpful People area of your home. This can be hidden.
  9. Sage Your Space
Removing clutter, changing things around and cleaning stirs up energy. Smudging (using white sage in bundle or incense form) helps clear all of that out.  The result is that prospective buyers feel welcome and comfortable in your space.
  10. Set Positive Intentions
Wouldn’t it be nice to sell your home quickly, with ease and grace and have fun while you’re doing it? Those are the intentions I set before selling my home. I also performed a very special Feng Shui adjustment called “Selling A House.”  This adjustment is provided to my clients who request my assistance in selling their home. It works for them and it worked for me!

I had nine showings (a magical Feng Shui number about reaching new heights) in the 2 days my house was on the market and by day 3 I accepted an above list price offer. Through it all, I constantly reminded myself to relax, breathe and have fun!

  11. Go with the Flow & Surrender to the Highest Unfolding*
There can be many ups and downs that occur with selling your home. It’s important to continue to FEEL the emotions that come up for you, everything from excitement to disappointment. Remember, that all of this is happening FOR you (as does all of life) and there is always something for you to learn from whatever happens. Let go of controlling the outcome. Be unattached to the timing and price your home sells for. And remember to follow your intuition throughout the process.

*This last tip is a BONUS add on!  On the evening of Day 4 the buyer cancelled the sale. So, it is currently back on the market. I’ve received another offer and have several more showings so it is sure to sell soon!

Remember, you are beginning a new chapter in your life. Go with the flow and remember you are abundant.  Let go of your attachment to how things should go and selling your house will be a wonderful experience on your life’s journey!

Doors Affect Your Voice & More

Standard

In Feng Shui, doors represent the voice of adults in the home (windows are the voice of children – see more tips for children in Back to School Feng Shui Tips). Your doors may be having a bigger effect on your life than you know.

Door issues can cause:

• Arguing
• Complaining or whining
• Confusion
• Lack of direction
• Voices to be silenced
• Blocked energy
• Money going “out the door”
• Relationship conflict
• Slanted vision of life or self
• Opportunities to be limited

One of my clients was a couple struggling with Career issues. He was looking for a new job and she was uncertain about her career path. Balancing an issue with the doors in their Career sector had amazing results for them. The day after they made the adjustment, he received a call back for a third job interview and subsequently got the job. A short while later, she was offered a new job opportunity that she wasn’t even looking for. Balancing the energy in your space CAN shift what’s happening in your life!

Below are a few common door issues and cures to help you start using your “voice” more effectively. Remember, intention is key so focusing on what you want is as important as placing the cure.

  • Having too many doors in an area can cause confusion or lack of direction in that part of your life. Hang a small round crystal (30% lead) or place a round rug in the middle of the doors. This will help balance the energy and create clarity, focus and direction.
  • Have you or others in your household been complaining? Check for squeaking or creaking doors. A little WD40 will go a long ways to stop the complaining “chatter” of the doors and people.
  • Do your front door and back door align (where if you rolled a ball from one it would go out the other)? You may have plenty of money coming in, but this will door issue will lead to it going right out the back door. Place something round anywhere between the two doors (round rug, crystal, bowl, table, etc.) This will deflect the escaping energy and help you save and keep more of what you are earning.
  • Does your new neighbor have a sliding glass door, but no deck? This is considered a “dead” door because it doesn’t lead anywhere. Buy them a sun catcher or a mirror to hang on the door to remedy this dead energy.

Problems with doors lead to an inability to voice your opinions and express yourself. Make sure all of your doors can open fully taking care not to store things behind them. Read more tips for your front door in Shut The Front Door.

Shut the Front Door…or open it!

Standard

When you hear someone talk about Feng Shui, an image of a front door painted red may come to mind. In Feng Shui, we refer to the front door as the “mouth of chi.” This is where the energy and opportunities enter your home and, in effect, your life.

Can you see your front door from the street? Or is it blocked by overgrown bushes or trees? Perhaps your front door is actually on the side of the house. How is the energy and opportunities going to find you?! Is the pathway from the street to your front door welcoming? What about your front door itself? Does it blend in with the rest of the house?

The truth is you don’t need to paint your front door red. The point of the red front door is making your door stand out from the rest of the house to attract good luck, good energy (chi) and opportunities. You can paint it another color, different from the siding, shutters, trim and roof, but make sure it’s a color that you love. If you live in a condo and can’t paint it, hang a pretty wreath on the door to make it stand out instead. Below are additional ideas to use your front door to attract and welcome new opportunities:

  •  Make sure the doorbell works
  •  Sweep the steps
  •  Change the front mat to a seasonal favorite
  •  Remove dead plants left over from the summer and replace with greenery (such as mini potted evergreen trees)
  •  Make sure the front door can open fully. Storing your shoes or other  items behind it may seem like a great idea, however, it limits your opportunities. Opportunity may knock and not be able to get into the house!

How often do you use your front door…actually go in and out of it? Convenience has most of us parking in our garage and entering and exiting our homes through the garage door. To increase opportunities, try this:

Go in and out of your front door for 9 days in a row. This energy shifting practice is particularly powerful if you are looking for a job or want to increase your career opportunities. Then, use the front door at least once a week thereafter.

So, don’t shut the front door – OPEN IT to welcome money and opportunities into your home and your life.
