How to Shake Up Your Chi

Standard

Clients often share with me that they feel stuck or unmotivated or that they cannot shift a particular area of their life and as a result are feeling frustrated. Sometimes things were going well and then they suddenly feel they have hit a plateau. When this happens, I first recommend energetically clearing both their homes and offices. (For more information on Space Clearing, watch this video or find more information about Space Clearing here.)

Next, I look at how we can shift the energy in their space and their life. Shifting energy is which is what feng shui is all about!

In feng shui, chi refers to energy. Everything has chi or energy – physical objects, cars, homes, offices and even human beings. You may have heard a person’s personal energy referred to as their vibration.

When we are “in flow” our chi/energy is good and we are vibrating at a high level. You have experienced this when you “happened” to be in the right place at the right time or things lined up easily for you, without a lot of effort on your part.

Then there are times when things are not flowing. You may feel like you are moving through mud and perhaps cannot seem to get any traction. Or you may feel like you are not moving at all. You may, in fact, be energetically stuck.

If you’re feeling stuck or out of sorts, it might be time to SHAKE UP your CHI!

There are many ways to shift out of this stuck place. One of my favorite ways is to shake up your chi. Shifting your chi or energy, allows you to see circumstances from a fresh perspective which leads to ideas and solutions that you cannot access from that stuck place.

The next time you’re feeling stuck, try one of these six ways to Shake Up Your Chi:

  1. Try something new! Try a new restaurant or food, a new activity, a new experience, a new way of doing something or learning something new (take a class).
  2. Take a new route. Drive down a different road. Take a different route to or from work. Walk a different way. I remember walking the opposite way that I normally would go and saw so many things I never noticed walking the other way. For peeps in Maui, swim at a different beach or hike a new trail.
  3. Move your furniture around. This method shifts the energy in your space in a very real way. My landlord recently brought me different living room furniture and a different kitchen table and it totally changed the energy I felt in that space and opened it up too. Creating more flow by clearing walkways through your house helps too.
  4. Change up your routine. Do your daily activities in a different order, like getting dressed before you look at your phone or meditating, exercising or walking at a different time of day. You could also go in and out a different door (hello front door!), use different dishes – maybe even the fine china. Eat in a different room, like that dining room that is used so rarely. Even putting your right sock or shoe on first instead of your left can shake up your chi!
  5. Pick a random letter and call someone you haven’t talked to in awhile (thanks for this one Gary V). Talking to an old friend or a family member you haven’t chatted with lately can be a great way to remind you what’s important in life too.
  6. And, the ultimate way to shake up your chi?! Go on VACATION or on a RETREAT!!! Yes, it’s true! Changing your physical environment is a wonderful way to shake up your chi, especially if you are visiting a place you have never been or doing something you have never done before.

Comment below to let me know if you try any of these or what your favorite ways are to shake up your chi!  If you want to try #6, the Vitally You Retreat on Maui is the perfect opportunity.

Are Your Sink & Stove Arguing?

Standard

If you’ve been in my tribe for awhile you may have heard me say that your home both reflects and affects you. Everything is energy and the things in your home and the way they are positioned impact you.

How do you know if your sink and stove are arguing?

Look at the placement of the sink and stove in your kitchen. If the sink is directly across from the stove, this is considered an “arguing” sink and stove. This is energetically challenging because it can literally cause arguing in or outside of the home. Many clients don’t mention arguing as an issue, but when I point out the arguing sink and stove and ask them, they agree that they do argue and often right in the kitchen between the sink and stove!  Once we remedied the issue, the arguing subsided.

There are two options for using Feng Shui to remedy this challenging situation:

1. Place a round rug between the sink and stove or place a rug in front of either the sink or stove that has a pattern with circles on it.

OR

2. Hang a crystal from the ceiling between the sink and stove. A 20 mm crystal is a good size. The crystal should be round and made with at least 30% lead (this has a balancing energy to it). The crystal should hang freely and can be hung with a 9″ red (lucky color) thread or 9″ fishing line. In Feng Shui the number 9 is auspicious and is about reaching new heights (and who doesn’t want to do that?!)

The round energy of the rug or crystal will disperse the arguing between the sink and stove and balance the energy in the space.

If arguing continues to be an issue after the adjustment is placed, please reach out to me as there are other circumstances within the home that can also contribute the energy of arguments.

I would also recommend that you energetically clear your space if there has been a lot of arguing in your home (either during or before you moved there, as in the case of a divorced couple having lived there prior to you).  Watch this video for instructions on how to clear your space with sage.

Kids Rooms Are Their World

Standard

Applying Feng Shui to children’s bedrooms helps create happier, more successful and well-balanced youth. It’s important to remember that kids rooms are their world – like their “home” and unless they are very little, like under 4 years old, you don’t want to make changes in their rooms without their involvement.

Similar to adults, we want to make certain that children feel safe and supported within the family and within their lives.  As with adults, we create a feeling of support for children with a solid headboard.

Slatted headboards have a cutting energy, which can lead to health and other issues, so if your child has one of these, you will want to remedy this. Several stores, including Ikea, carry headboard covers that slip over the top of an existing headboard. Another option is to weave material through the slats to create a solid look. Or, you may hang a blanket or quilt over the top of the headboard.

If your child does not have any headboard at all you can, of course purchase one. Or you can create one by:

  • Painting a square one on the wall behind their bed
  • Painting the entire wall behind the bed a different color than the rest of the walls
  • Hanging a banner, tapestry, flag or other material behind the bed

Bunk Beds

In Feng Shui, we are not a fan of bunk beds for a number of reasons. For the child in the bottom bunk, it can feel overwhelming as the heaviness of the one above hangs over them or the feeling that the upper bunk could collapse upon them. For the child in the upper bunk, there is usually not a lot of space between the bed and the ceiling, which again gives the child the feeling of overwhelm and a limited view of life and the world.

If you must have bunk beds for space reasons, use these remedies. For the upper bunk, hang something with depth above the bed – I love the glow in the dark stars – to expand the space above the bed and give the illusion of more expansiveness. For the lower bunk, a poster of scenery or a picture with depth, as long as it is calm and soothing, can be hung under the top bunk above where the child lays. This again will help expand the space and leave the child feeling as if they can breathe again!

Unlike adults, children do not need two nightstands and they can have bookshelves in their bedrooms. I do recommend the books be waist high or below, however, to prevent the children from feeling overwhelmed or like things could fall on them.

Lastly, to help your children get a good night’s sleep I recommend closing closet doors before bed. The open doors are a lot of energy rushing at them while they are trying to calm their minds. I also recommend choosing plain solid color sheets and avoiding action figures or cartoon characters, which are very active and do not allow children to relax into their dream state as easily.

The Energetic Challenge of Ashes

Standard

Keeping ashes in your home is a Feng Shui Challenge

Many people keep the ashes of their loved ones in their homes and often they are placing them in a location within the home that is energetically harming them. The energy of non-living things (not only ashes, but also dried flowers and other “dead” items) can create many difficulties — everything from lost opportunities and income to health and relationship challenges.

Dead things and ashes, whether human or pet remains, represent stuck or stagnant energy and it is best to remove them from your home. If you have dead trees in your yard, remove them. If you have plants that are dead or dying and cannot be revived, remove them.

Note: If the plant was placed as a Feng Shui adjustment and died, it has likely taken the energetic “hit” for you. Thank it for it’s service to you and replace the plant with a bigger or more expensive one.

Remove dried flowers unless they have special significance to you, such as a wedding bouquet. Consider whether you can remember the event through pictures with the living flowers instead. If you wish to keep the dried flowers, preserve and honor them by placing them in a shadow box or other container.

Many of my clients do not wish to remove the ashes of their loved ones from their home. In these cases, I make recommendations on where the ashes can be placed to do the least harm. Let’s first be clear about where ashes should not be placed within the home:

  1. In the Bedroom or outside the bedroom door. The bedroom is your place of rest, rejuvenation and romance. Keeping ashes here can negatively affect your health as well as your romantic relationships, where the deceased loved one is literally coming between you and a vibrant life with those who are still living and with your own body that is still alive.
  2. In the Dining Room. The dining room is where you take in food to nourish your body. We want living things in this space to signify life-giving energy to your body.
  3. In the Kitchen. The kitchen is where your food is cooked, which also nourishes your body and the stove is located here, which is symbolizes your wealth so keeping ashes in this location can affect both your health and your finances.
  4. Near the Front Door. As you’ve read in my previous blogs, the front door is considered the “Mouth of Chi” where all the energy and opportunities come into your home. Keeping ashes, or other non-living things in this area can push opportunities away and prevent abundance from flowing to you.

Ashes you wish to keep should be placed in a common area, like a family room or living room and well away from the front door, kitchen, dining room or your bedrooms.

Do you wish you could connect with your loved one who has passed? I can help you with this! Through my work as an Angel Card reader and psychic I’m able to connect you with your loved ones. I’ve found these souls have beautiful messages for you and are so happy when I’m able to relay them and share the ways they are present in your everyday life. To learn more about my Angel Reading services and book your reading visit my website.

There is a special Feng Shui adjustment called the Sealing the Doors Ceremony that is beneficial and recommended to be performed when:

  • You are keeping ashes in the home
  • You’ve had bad luck in a house
  • You’ve been robbed
  • Occupants are feeling unsafe
  • Your home is located across from a church, cemetery or funeral home
  • You suspect other living spirits are present within your house

To obtain a copy of the Sealing the Doors adjustment, please email me at Kim@FindingYourFiji.com. I will request that you honor the Red Envelope tradition in exchange for receiving the adjustment.
Sealing the Doors Kits are also available for purchase on my Finding Your Fiji Etsy site.

Do You Need a Clutter Buster?

Clutter busting
Standard

If you want more money, you do! The quickest way to manifest more money is to clear out clutter. Clutter busting helps with a number of other life issues as well!

When I do a Feng Shui home consult, I specifically ask the client not to clean or straighten up. By seeing how they live on a daily basis, I’m better able to help them shift the energy in their space and get to the root of their life challenges.

So, I do see clutter. And, to be honest, I have a few clutter spots in my own home. My office closet is one of them. I swear the stuff in there is multiplying! I have cleaned and organized this closet multiple times. You know how it is…you clean out other areas and more stuff gets shoved into the closet, right? It can be a vicious cycle.

So what’s clutter got to do with manifesting money?

In Feng Shui, clutter represents stuck energy. When energy is stuck, money cannot flow to you. More than that, though, the objects in your space affect you. They generally either lift you up or they drag you down. Yes, clutter an physically and mentally drain you. And, clutter in the different areas of your home (in Feng Shui we call them guas) can keep you from moving forward in that area (such as career or partnership or wealth).

Clutter can cause:

  • Clouded vision
  • Overwhelm
  • Relationships to suffer
  • Weight issues
  • Fatigue
  • Depression
  • Health issues
  • Lack of focus
  • Lost opportunities
  • Financial difficulties
  • Impeded growth

The more clutter you have piled on horizontal surfaces (desks, dressers, countertops, fireplace mantels, etc.) the cloudier your vision and the less clear you are about where you’re headed in life.

By removing clutter, you are allowing vital energy, opportunities and money to flow to you. The empty space creates a vacuum, begging to be filled with the things you really want to be, do and have in your life. It stands to reason, then, that clearing clutter is the quickest way to manifest more money.

Clutter can take many forms including: paper, email, mind, disorganized stuff, things that are broken, excess amount of things, unused items, things you don’t love, things that belong to someone else (caretaker items).

Clutter Busting Tips

1)   If you don’t use it and/or love it, let it go!

2)   Clear one space: a counter, a shelf, a corner, your dresser and declare this spot as a clutter-free zone which means keeping it clear!

3)   Start in your bedroom. Make that a haven so you can sleep well and have the energy to tackle the rest of it.

4)   Clear clutter according to categories, such as clothing, books, shoes, nick nacks

5)   Spend 9 minutes a day clearing clutter and in a month you will have spent 4 ½ hours clearing clutter! Set a timer. You can do anything for 9 minutes, right?

6)   Remove 9 items every day that you don’t use, or love or are broken. In just 9 days you will have removed 81 things!

7)   Ring a bell over the clutter or hang a clear round crystal in the area to get the energy moving and help you gain clarity about what to keep

8)   Sort items into 5 categories: Keep/Donate/Toss/Sell/Undecided

*Keep items:   Find a permanent home for them…everything has a place
*Donate:   Remove the bags immediately and put them in car for drop off
*Toss:   Put them out with the next garbage pickup
*Sell:   Start taking pictures and listing one or two a day
*Undecided:   This box helps keep the process moving along. Most likely when you are done going through an area, you will have a different view of the things that are in this box and be ready to let them go!

9) Put everything in a box. This is an option for quickly clearing an area.  Use a notecard to write down what’s in the box. Then, store it. If you don’t use any of the items in 6 months, you’ll know it’s safe to let them go!

Whatever suggestions you like of the 9 I’ve provided above, simply begin. Once you start, you will shift the energy in your space and be inspired to continue!

Down the Drain ~ How toilets affect your life

Toilets are draining energy
Standard

Indoor plumbing is a great convenience. I shudder to think what it would be like to use an outhouse during one of our freezing Minnesota winters!

Toilets are a necessity yet in Feng Shui they represent draining energy. Toilets contain the biggest drains in your home in comparison to sinks, showers or bathtubs. They can literally be a drain on health or wealth or whichever area of your home they are located. The good news is that very simple Feng Shui adjustments can help get things flowing in the right direction again!

In my prior home, we had a bathroom located in the center, which correlates to the Health area. This played out for me as I underwent two surgeries while living there – a hysterectomy and a gall bladder removal. One of my clients had a bathroom in the center of her home as well as a furnace (draining her health and burning it up at the same time!). She had quite a variety of health issues while living there including a tumor that had to be removed. These were mitigated by a few simple Feng Shui adjustments. She ultimately decided to move and has felt healthier in her new space.

In my current home, I have a bathroom in my Wealth corner. To say this has been a challenge is the understatement of the year. When I first moved in, I had the momentum of a great GoldSwap business going, which lasted a couple years. In the last two years, the draining energy of that bathroom in Wealth has taken a toll on my bank account. Thankfully, with the Feng Shui adjustments I have made, things are beginning to turn around! I’ll share more about what I did to address this in the tips below.

Challenging Bathroom Locations

  •  Center of Home ~ drains your health
  •  First seen upon Entry ~ leads to digestive issues
  •  Visible from Kitchen ~ leads to weight/health issues
  •  Wealth area ~ money goes down the drain
  •  Visible from Bed ~ drains energy while you sleep
  •  Over the Stove ~ puts out the fire of wealth and health
  •  Over the Front Door ~ douses opportunities
  •  Upon Entering a Business ~ sets the wrong tone

If you are building or looking for a new home, the best location for a bathroom is outside. Just kidding…unless you really like outhouses! Having the bathroom situated between two guas (areas) of your home is the best placement along the perimeter (not in the center of the home). Refer to my recent post explaining the Feng Shui Bagua. The Bagua is a  mental map that is placed on your home showing where the nine life areas are located.

What Can You Do to Minimize the Draining Effect?

  1.  Keep a lid on it: keep toilet seats closed
  2.  Contain it: keep the bathroom door closed, especially if it can be seen upon entering your home or from the kitchen or bed
  3.  Raise the energy: Place a mirror on each wall of the bathroom (inside or outside walls). The idea is to draw the energy up and out of the drain
  4.  Add plants: Plants are considered a wood element which gives the water something to do (soaks it up)

Simple changes CAN affect the flow of energy into and throughout your home. One client could not get her husband and son to put the toilet seats down, even when she told them how unsanitary it was (Dr. Oz talks about the bacteria floating up into the air as you flush). But when she told them it was poor Feng Shui, they complied!

Check to see where the bathrooms are in your home and pick one action above to reduce their draining energy. Post here or on my Finding Your Fiji Facebook page to share!

Confused about how to lay the Bagua on your home or where to start?  I am a WWS certified Feng Shui Practitioner and can consult with you regarding your home or office. I even do Skype appointments for those non-local people!
