Are Your Sink & Stove Arguing?

Standard

If you’ve been in my tribe for awhile you may have heard me say that your home both reflects and affects you. Everything is energy and the things in your home and the way they are positioned impact you.

How do you know if your sink and stove are arguing?

Look at the placement of the sink and stove in your kitchen. If the sink is directly across from the stove, this is considered an “arguing” sink and stove. This is energetically challenging because it can literally cause arguing in or outside of the home. Many clients don’t mention arguing as an issue, but when I point out the arguing sink and stove and ask them, they agree that they do argue and often right in the kitchen between the sink and stove!  Once we remedied the issue, the arguing subsided.

There are two options for using Feng Shui to remedy this challenging situation:

1. Place a round rug between the sink and stove or place a rug in front of either the sink or stove that has a pattern with circles on it.

OR

2. Hang a crystal from the ceiling between the sink and stove. A 20 mm crystal is a good size. The crystal should be round and made with at least 30% lead (this has a balancing energy to it). The crystal should hang freely and can be hung with a 9″ red (lucky color) thread or 9″ fishing line. In Feng Shui the number 9 is auspicious and is about reaching new heights (and who doesn’t want to do that?!)

The round energy of the rug or crystal will disperse the arguing between the sink and stove and balance the energy in the space.

If arguing continues to be an issue after the adjustment is placed, please reach out to me as there are other circumstances within the home that can also contribute the energy of arguments.

I would also recommend that you energetically clear your space if there has been a lot of arguing in your home (either during or before you moved there, as in the case of a divorced couple having lived there prior to you).  Watch this video for instructions on how to clear your space with sage.

The Energetic Challenge of Ashes

Standard

Keeping ashes in your home is a Feng Shui Challenge

Many people keep the ashes of their loved ones in their homes and often they are placing them in a location within the home that is energetically harming them. The energy of non-living things (not only ashes, but also dried flowers and other “dead” items) can create many difficulties — everything from lost opportunities and income to health and relationship challenges.

Dead things and ashes, whether human or pet remains, represent stuck or stagnant energy and it is best to remove them from your home. If you have dead trees in your yard, remove them. If you have plants that are dead or dying and cannot be revived, remove them.

Note: If the plant was placed as a Feng Shui adjustment and died, it has likely taken the energetic “hit” for you. Thank it for it’s service to you and replace the plant with a bigger or more expensive one.

Remove dried flowers unless they have special significance to you, such as a wedding bouquet. Consider whether you can remember the event through pictures with the living flowers instead. If you wish to keep the dried flowers, preserve and honor them by placing them in a shadow box or other container.

Many of my clients do not wish to remove the ashes of their loved ones from their home. In these cases, I make recommendations on where the ashes can be placed to do the least harm. Let’s first be clear about where ashes should not be placed within the home:

  1. In the Bedroom or outside the bedroom door. The bedroom is your place of rest, rejuvenation and romance. Keeping ashes here can negatively affect your health as well as your romantic relationships, where the deceased loved one is literally coming between you and a vibrant life with those who are still living and with your own body that is still alive.
  2. In the Dining Room. The dining room is where you take in food to nourish your body. We want living things in this space to signify life-giving energy to your body.
  3. In the Kitchen. The kitchen is where your food is cooked, which also nourishes your body and the stove is located here, which is symbolizes your wealth so keeping ashes in this location can affect both your health and your finances.
  4. Near the Front Door. As you’ve read in my previous blogs, the front door is considered the “Mouth of Chi” where all the energy and opportunities come into your home. Keeping ashes, or other non-living things in this area can push opportunities away and prevent abundance from flowing to you.

Ashes you wish to keep should be placed in a common area, like a family room or living room and well away from the front door, kitchen, dining room or your bedrooms.

Feng Shui for Work: Desk Placement Tips

Standard

Take charge of your career by moving your desk

Do you feel out of control at work? Surprised or unprepared for what comes at you or like you’re handling too many pesky details? The position of your desk is an important factor that affects how you feel at work, your productivity and your reputation.

If your desk is…

  • Vulnerable to the door (meaning you can’t see the door from where you sit – like when your back is to the door) you may feel unprepared and surprised by what or who comes in. It’s an uneasy feeling that can not only make it difficult to focus but also leave you feeling like you’re constantly putting out fires rather than doing the business shifting tasks.

Desk Vulnerable to Door

  • Too close to the door you are in what we call in Feng Shui “the Gatekeeper” position and you are likely handling a lot of things that could be handled by someone else. If you’re the boss and you’re in this position, you may be doing secretary type work or have employees coming to you constantly with issues someone else could be handling.
  • In line with the door there is a lot of energy coming at you and you may find it difficult to focus on your work.

Desk Gatekeeper & In line with door

So, where should your desk be placed? In the COMMAND POSITION, of course! The command position is the farthest location from the door, facing the door. Ideally, I like to see a solid wall behind you as that provides more support than a row of windows, for instance.

Desk Command position

In Command Position

What do I do if I cannot move my desk?

If you cannot move your desk and you are:

  • Facing a wall or vulnerable to the door, add a mirror in front of you that will allow you to see the door when you sit at your desk. The mirror allows you to see what’s coming at you & to be prepared.
  • In line with the door or too close to the door, hang a small round crystal between you and the door. Ideally this would be hung from a 9” red thread or ribbon. The round crystal helps balance the energy and disperse it so it’s not hitting you as you sit at your desk.

Being in the command position (or using the recommended Feng Shui adjustments) puts you in control of your career and your business. It allows you to feel prepared for what’s coming at you and brings you feelings of peace and calm. When you place your desk in the command position, you’ll be better able to focus on your work and worry less about the unexpected.

BONUS Tip! Get a high back chair with arms. This is about being the executive in your business/career. You don’t see high level exec’s sitting on a folding chair, do you?

Top 10 Ways to Increase Your Fun Load

Increase your fun load
Standard

“Reduce your workload by 30% and increase your fun load by 30% and you will increase your revenue by 100% and you will increase your productivity by 10,000%. More fun, less struggle equals more results on all fronts.”   – Abraham-Hicks

Top Ten Ways to Increase Your FUN Load

  1. Pet or play with an animal, go to the Humane Society or to the zoo
  2. Think about things that make you feel good
    * Memories
    * Things you like to do
    * How you helped a client
    * Your past successes
    * Funny jokes
  3. Walk outside or work outside on your deck
  4. Dream build: Create a dream board or book with pictures or notes about things you want to be, do or have in your life
  5. Use colorful folders and pens or fun supplies or desk organizers
  6. Experience something new
    * Take a class
    * Attend a workshop
    * Try a new recipe
    * Find a new Meet Up group
    * See a new movie
    * Paint
    * Walk or drive in a different direction than you normally do
  7. Look for things to appreciate and be grateful for all day long
    * Trees as you’re driving
    * Color of someone’s eyes
    * Interesting architecture
    * Electricity / heat / your car
    * People in your life ~ a kiss, a hug, a smile
    * Soft comfort of your sheets & bed
  8. Take a nap (when you sleep you reset your point of attraction and can start fresh with a better attitude)
  9. Go window shopping. I love to do this in conjunction with Abraham’s $100 bill exercise. Get a crisp $100 bill and put in your purse. Then, mentally spend it over and over every day so when you see something you like, think I could buy that and you could because you actually have that $100 bill in your purse. Occasionally, you may even want to spend it to buy something you really like!
  10. Flood your day with positive messages (see below for my favorites).
  • Put affirmation calendars in your bathrooms and on your desk
  • Listen to positive CDs in your car or Hay House radio
  • Bookmark your favorite You Tube Channels to watch/listen while cooking or folding laundry

Daily Quotes sent to your email:
www.Abraham-Hicks.com
www.tut.com
www.hayhouse.com for perpetual flip calendars: My favorites are Robert Holden’s Success Now, Wayne Dyer’s The Power of Intention and Abraham-Hicks’ Ask and It Is Given. I also like Louise Hay’s daily affirmation calendar (she creates a new one each year).

Define Your Work Space – Feng Shui tips for Home Offices

Standard

I often work with clients who are self-employed and run their businesses out of their homes, like I do. This can present a number of Feng Shui and life challenges. In smaller homes where there isn’t an extra room to use for an office, you may not have a defined work space. Or, if you do have an office, that space may be cluttered or used for multiple purposes. Work may also spill into other areas of the home or you find yourself doing work in the family room or at the kitchen table.

Another issue with businesses based in the home is a lack of separation between home and work time so you may find that you are working all the time and/or your family is disrupting your work. This can lead to a feeling of not being taken seriously either by your family or your clients.

Having a defined work space is important because:

  1. Your work can be contained
  2. Your family will know when you are working
  3. It helps you focus and adopt a business mindset when you are in that space
  4. It sends the Universe a message that you are serious about this business
  5. You can virtually “close the door” on your work to enjoy your home life

You can create a defined space using walls or doors of course. However, you can also use screens or something comparable to create your defined office space. This space should be as far from the bedroom as possible so that you are able to relax and not be thinking about work while you are trying to sleep. Hint – the closer your office is to the front door, the more easily business can find you!

If your office is in a spare room, it should not double as a guest room or play room. Having a multi-purpose space confuses the energy (chi) because it doesn’t know what opportunities to send here. Also, having a bed in the space where you are meant to be working can reduce productivity effectively lulling you to sleep.

Why do I need a desk?

Do you know any executives who do not have a desk? If you are serious about building a viable and successful business, you’d be wise to compare your office to that of a top level executive. You will be taken more seriously by both family and clients and be sending the message to the Universe that your work is important which energetically grows your business.

Set your “executive” office up for success with:

  • A good sized desk
  • A high back chair (in Feng Shui this is about backing for decisions & support)
  • Desk facing the door with a supporting wall behind (about seeing what’s coming)
  • Art that is professional rather than “homey”
  • No beds or childish things
  • Minimal to no clutter
  • Neatly organized books
  • Only a few pictures of family

Shut the Front Door…or open it!

Standard

When you hear someone talk about Feng Shui, an image of a front door painted red may come to mind. In Feng Shui, we refer to the front door as the “mouth of chi.” This is where the energy and opportunities enter your home and, in effect, your life.

Can you see your front door from the street? Or is it blocked by overgrown bushes or trees? Perhaps your front door is actually on the side of the house. How is the energy and opportunities going to find you?! Is the pathway from the street to your front door welcoming? What about your front door itself? Does it blend in with the rest of the house?

The truth is you don’t need to paint your front door red. The point of the red front door is making your door stand out from the rest of the house to attract good luck, good energy (chi) and opportunities. You can paint it another color, different from the siding, shutters, trim and roof, but make sure it’s a color that you love. If you live in a condo and can’t paint it, hang a pretty wreath on the door to make it stand out instead. Below are additional ideas to use your front door to attract and welcome new opportunities:

  •  Make sure the doorbell works
  •  Sweep the steps
  •  Change the front mat to a seasonal favorite
  •  Remove dead plants left over from the summer and replace with greenery (such as mini potted evergreen trees)
  •  Make sure the front door can open fully. Storing your shoes or other  items behind it may seem like a great idea, however, it limits your opportunities. Opportunity may knock and not be able to get into the house!

How often do you use your front door…actually go in and out of it? Convenience has most of us parking in our garage and entering and exiting our homes through the garage door. To increase opportunities, try this:

Go in and out of your front door for 9 days in a row. This energy shifting practice is particularly powerful if you are looking for a job or want to increase your career opportunities. Then, use the front door at least once a week thereafter.

So, don’t shut the front door – OPEN IT to welcome money and opportunities into your home and your life.
